1 March is memorable for so many interesting occasions when it comes to Cricket. Some of them are as under:
1. On this day in 1958, Sir Garry Sobers turned his maiden Test century into a record breaking 365 not out at Sabina Park, a score which was broken by Brian Lara in 36 years later. West Indies ended up at 790 for 3, the fourth highest Test total !
2. On this day in 2003, Sachin Tendulkar almost single-handedly won the clash for India against Pakistan during the World Cup.
3. On this day in 1980, Shahid Afridi was born and today he ended up scoring a duck against Zimbabwe in the WC clash.
4. First bilateral series between India and Pakistan ended in a 0-0 draw on this day in 1955.
5. On this day in 1921, England faced first 5-nil whitewash in Ashes. This Ashes is remembered for heroics of the great leg-spinner Arthur Mailey.
6. In 1999, Daryll Cullinan made highest score (275) in South Africa’s test history at Auckland and SA declared at 621 for 5. However, they could not win this test match as Geoff Allott made the longest duck in Test History and resisted Proteas attack for 101 minutes. SA could not again bowl out New Zealand due to lack of time.
7. The 1992 World Cup champs Pakistan were bundled for 74 by England but rained saved them from a sureshot loss. However, in another clash during the 1992 World Cup, India requiring 4 runs off the last ball lost to Australia at Brisbane by just 1 run thus giving Aussies their first win after two initial losses.
